Lisa Newton

There is not charge for her service. Lisa  reviews  holiday  properties and makes an assessment to their suitability of need for the individual client. She is also very helpful in helping people with disabilities find the right accommodation that will meet their needs. I can imagine that this is not an easy task to do, as there are so many different types of disabilities and a vast array of accommodation.

In between keeping busy with ‘Can do Holidays’ she also column writer on accessible holidays in PosAbility Magazine.

A2B With Dignity

Promove products have one goal, to move disabled people from a2b with dignity. After being unintentionally hurt whilst being moved into and out of aircraft across the world, Managing Director and Inventor Dr Huw Thomas created the first Promove Sling.
The original Promove Sling, by customer demand evolved into additional slings and this range is now sold and exported across the world to airports, emergency services, stadiums and a host of other venues.
Many individuals have also purchased a Promove sling so that they can use it when needed, recently one was even used at Number 10 Downing Street to move individuals down a staircase.
British made the Promove sling has won innovation awards and new products are already in development.

Dave’s Story ………
I’ve always had a keen interest in the great outdoors , before my accident
Spending most weekends either hiking , or in the warmer months camping with my family and friends.
My daughter now 12 years old has always been the outdoorsy type, and also been very keen to learn about nature , wildlife and birdwatching , which I’ve always enjoyed sharing and encouraging her to learn with her.
Dave and his daughter
Living near Morecambe Bay , we are spoilt for choice for beautiful countryside within easy travelling distance , the Yorkshire Dales  to the east of us , the Lake District just to the north of us and not forgetting the Trough of Bowland just to the south of us.
You never know whats around the next corner in life , I was happily working and enjoying our family’s love of the outdoors in our spare time
BUT THEN …….
One shift at work I had an accident,I fell backwards from a lorry , and the metal forks forks of a fork lift truck which was by the side of the lorry , broke my fall , catching the lower spine area (lumbar & sacral) of my back
I was unable to move at all and left work in an ambulance that day
The fall has left me with severe post traumatic arthritis of the spine and has caused some nerve damage which affects my left hand side of my body and  gives me chronic pain
This  has left me with mobilty problems and now needing a wheelchair to get about, and a rather large cocktail of medication to get through each day
A number of hospital stays , scans , pain management etc , is a big part of my life now and  my weekly hydrotherapy pool session is beneficial , helping to get some movement going , movement that I’m unable to do ” on dry land”.
I ,for one , refuse to let this get me down , it’s happened , life goes on ………. It did at first, (I’m only human)
With planning we can still enjoy the outdoors as a family , to a degree.
A whole wealth of information on websites regarding accessible routes is out there, waiting to be explored .
Our local RSPB nature reserve , Leighton Moss at Silverdale has 2 new hides for bird/ wildlife watching , and I’m pleased to report they have considered the disabled and provided wheelchair access to the hides .
I wish Deb every success , in her fundraising to provide a Tramper all-terrain mobility scooter in the Dales , so others can share and enjoy her love of the Dales , a most beautiful part of the country
Enjoying the outdoors
With Regards
Dave
PS: I’ve applied for an assistance dog caninepartners.org.uk If successful, I do hope it will enjoy our trails

Yorkshire Trike Tours

The Yorkshire Trike Tours  have pleaded to donate £5 to accessthedales for every booking they take this summer. This gift came as a real surprise to me, as I have never met, nor heard about the company before now. They have obviously read my tweets or have followed my blog. Either way I am so grateful for their kindness.

WHO ARE THEY? You may ask

Here is a little piece at Judith has written about Yorkshire Trike Tours

About Us

The idea behind Yorkshire Trike Tours came about following the many happy road trips my husband and I enjoyed on our own Boom trike. We bought our trike back in 2006, after my husband watched a TV series called ‘Billy Connelly’s World Tour of England, Wales and Ireland’, using one of these fantastic machines. Over the last few years we have spent many glorious days riding throughout the Yorkshire Dales and loved every minute of it, accruing hundreds of miles along the way on our own two seater Boom trike.

I wanted to be able to share this unique experience, and so my idea was born. I am a Yorkshire girl, born and bred and have a lifelong passion for the Yorkshire Dales. My idea was to buy a three seater Boom trike and provide chauffeur driven tours for guests. Now I can make it possible for anyone to enjoy specially designed tour routes, share the thrill of the trike and enjoy the Yorkshire Dales at their very best. Guests can see and feel what we have enjoyed; the open air, the sunshine and the feeling of the wind on your face.

So welcome to Yorkshire Trike Tours and our Boom Mustang Family three seater trike, designed to carry two passengers in total comfort & safety. Sit back and revel in the sheer pleasure of being chauffeur driven throughout the Dales. I have designed over 25+ tours that give a real flavour of the Yorkshire Dales. They are suitable for those familiar with this part of the world, and those who have never been here before. I have travelled them all, so know how fantastic they are. They are absolutely brilliant! Come and see for yourself!

Best wishes Judith Richards
