Access in the Yorkshire Dales National Park

The Access Development Officer for the Yorkshire Dales has been kind enough to forward to me some very interesting information about their vision for public access in the Yorkshire Dales.

There vision -“We believe all should be able to enjoy some access to the Yorkshire Dales National Park, no matter what their level of ability”

As stated in the report which I received, promoting enjoyment of the countryside can involve removing physical barriers, whilst remaining sensitive to conservation,  and through their regular work, every consideration is made to remove such barriers – for example – a difficult stile.

The footpath to Gordale Scar has been improved so that it is accessible to all users.  Gordale Scar is a wonderful place to visit, with fabulous views.

A new gate has been installed by the River Wharf in Grassington, and steps have been replaced with a ramp.

There are also some wheelchair accessible fishing platforms at Haylands near Hawes.

As a  wheelchair user it is important to support the work of the Access Development Team. I am very grateful for the work that they do.

Thank you.
