The Piggery – Thornton Rust

We have just returned from a two night stay in the Yorkshire Dales.

The weather was pretty awful, but the views and scenery, made up for that.

We stayed in Thornton Rust, a village in the Richmondshire district of North YorkshireEngland. It lies in the Yorkshire Dales about 2 miles west of Aysgarth, high on the south side of the Ure valley.

We stayed at ‘The Piggery’, a self catering cottage. And we Loved it! .

The warm welcome from Annette, the owner, was exceptional. She greeted us as though we were long lost friends; we had never met before!

The Piggery is an ideal base, for a couple, for exploring the Yorkshire dales.

It is a small, self contained cottage, which is well thought out and resourced and is ideal for someone with poor mobility.

The fact that you are able to park the car right up to the front door is an added bonus.

You can access the building in a wheel chair, however the cottage is very small and the chair would need to be folded away, when in the main room.

There are no steps to negotiate.

The bed was fabulous. It has been raised from the ground and I was able to sit on the edge of the bed quite easily, and had a very comfortable night’s sleep.

There is a proper wet room, with shower. A seat, whilst showering, is available on request.

The views from the cottage are stunning.

The comments in the visitors’ book say it all:

“ Always a pleasure to return”

“An enjoyable stay”

“Thank you for a great week. We will be back!”

Andy and I will certainly be going back. We really enjoyed it.

Please note: I have poor mobility, and I am able to get out of my wheelchair, and use elbow crutches.
